Amor y Bachata, a Tropical Futurism painting by Maxime Viellard, made in his studio in Nosara, Costa Rica
Tropical FuturismAcrylic on canvas, 2026

Maxime Viellard is a Costa Rica fine artist working from Nosara, on the Nicoya Peninsula. He trained in visual arts at Universidad Veritas in San José and has exhibited across the country, from the Centro Cultural de Liberia to the National Museum of Costa Rica.

His current series, Tropical Futurism, cuts the figures, masks and water of Guanacaste into planes of ochre and Pacific blue, drawing on Constructivism and Futurism. Alongside painting he builds balanced stone sculptures on the beaches near Nosara, documented in the film The Quiet Stones.

For collectors, homeowners, architects and hotels in Costa Rica, that means one artist who can paint for a specific wall, design a piece for a specific space, and install it.
