About

A life of art
and peace.

Maxime Viellard connected with painting, film and design early in life. At eight he was studying theatre and finding his way into cinema. At thirteen he moved with his family to Costa Rica, and after high school he took formal drawing classes before studying visual arts at Veritas University.

There he fully began exploring the plastic arts, drawn by semiotics and the emotion held in visual language, a connection that runs through all his work. His painting moved from abstraction to constructivism and, in an unusual progression, to realism.

“Inspired by life, nature and humanity: a world where everything is touched by art and every experience is valid.”

Maxime Viellard

Maxime has exhibited in galleries across San José, including the National Museum, and is known for his balanced stone sculptures. In Nosara he promotes alternative cinema nights and live painting soirées, teaches and assists at the community drawing class under Scott Bell’s guidance, and co-created the town’s skate parks so its children have safe places to play. With Ángel Lara Vargas he has formed a team that brings art into the streets of Nosara.
