Maxime Viellard

A life of Art and Peace
Maxime Viellard is a visual artist who connected with painting, film, and design during the early years of his life. Around the age of eight, he was studying theater and developing a connection with cinema. At thirteen, he moved with his family to Costa Rica, and after finishing high school, he began taking formal drawing classes and later studied visual arts at Veritas University.
It was during this time that he fully began exploring the plastic arts, inspired by semiotics and the emotional expression contained within visual language. This essence, the connection to emotion, has remained present in all his work to this day. During those formative years, he explored abstract painting, gradually transitioning toward constructivism and eventually arriving at realism in an interesting and unusual stylistic progression.
Maxime has exhibited in various galleries in San José, including the National Museum, and is also known for his balanced stone sculptures.
He has a strong interest in developing the cultural scene in the Nosara area, promoting alternative cinema nights and live painting soirées. He enjoys collaborations with other artists across disciplines, such as sculptors, musicians, writers, and dancers, fostering interdisciplinary exchange. He also consistently supports the community drawing class, teaching and assisting under Scott Bell’s guidance.
It is also worth mentioning that Maxime is a community ambassador who co-created the skate parks for Nosara’s children, helping ensure they have safe spaces to play outdoors.
Partnerships: Together with Ángel Lara Vargas, he has formed a team to bring art into the streets of Nosara, where they find fertile ground for artistic interventions that would not be possible elsewhere.
Inspired by life, nature, and humanity, their shared vision seeks to create a world where everything is touched by art and every experience is valid. Always learning and growing, making space for other artists.
